My name is Shannon. I have been working in Childhood Education for 20 years. I have spent most of those years in Pre-K. I love this age group. I love how excited they are to learn and how much they want to share of their knowledge.
Why "The Pre-K Process"? I am sure you have all heard the saying before "It's not the product, it's the PROCESS!" That is so true. After 20 years of changing theories, techniques, and thoughts on Early Childhood, I have come to see it always goes back to the process. The more the teacher does of the process, the less the child takes away. Of course parents love those crafty lessons that all look adorable. They also give you the side eye when they see a glop of paint and some pipe cleaners glued on a page. It's so important to share with them that this is how they learn at this age.
I promise if you give them the chance to create the process themselves, you will find them learning by leaps and bounds. The picture with this article is of our latest theme "Dental Health". We painted with tooth brushes. Tell me this doesn't look like some amazing abstract art!
