In Pre-K we often find hands on activities are what really catch the student's attention. In keeping with the philosophy, "It's the product, not the process!", a few years ago I started a new morning procedure. Morning Games! Each student gets a new game every day. Yes, I said every day. Stay with me! Yes, at first setting this up is daunting but once you get it going it becomes quite simple really.
First, I bought drawer unites at Walmart. They are Sterilite and they are perfect! (link below to drawers I use) Each drawer will hold two games. I have a maximum of 22 students. Two students share a drawer, 22 drawers last almost an entire month. So I aim for a monthly change up. (if a student repeats a game it is ok, they haven't seen it in almost a month!) I rotate the drawers every two days. It honestly only takes a couple of minutes. I've tried this a few ways, from having the pictures of each child on the drawers, using Velcro; to moving the games themselves from drawer to drawer. Both work very easily. It really is whatever works for you.
What kind of games? Well it varies. It can be as simple as building with Legos or more academic like matching rhyming words/pictures. I do everything: fine motor, number recognition, patterns, one to one correspondence, rhyming, letter matching and letter sounds. I have found Teacher Pay Teachers to be a great resource but I have also used file folder games and other things.
